Personal Information

What personal information do we collect?

We collect information you provide us. If you subscribe to the email list, newsletter, or use the contact form, you will be asked to enter the following: first name, last name, email address, and any other information that may be necessary.

We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

We collect personal information when you subscribe to the email list, newsletter, and/or use the contact form.

How do we use your information?

Your information is used in the following ways:

How do we protect your information?

We use malware scanning to secure and protect our site from malicious activity.

The following third-party sites are used to collect and store information: https://mailchimp.com and https://jetpack.com.

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

Really Simple SSL and Really Simple SSL add-ons do not process any personal identifiable information, so the GDPR does not apply to these plugins or usage of these plugins on your website. You can find our privacy policy here.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact Forms

We use Contact Form 7 for contact forms. When you submit a contact form, the personal data is collected: your name, your email, a subject, and your message. The information will be kept indefinitely. Your information will not be used for marketing purposes.

Cookies

We use cookies on our website. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.

Personally Identifiable Information unless we provide users with advance notice. This does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or serving our users, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release information when its release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property, or safety.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as required to respond to and resolve inquiries and to process and share relevant information with you.
For mailing list subscriptions, we retain your information for as long as you remain subscribed (i.e. you do not unsubscribe).

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Unsubscribing

If you no longer wish to receive emails, follow the instructions at the bottom of each email. You will be removed from all correspondence.

California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)

CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law’s reach stretches well beyond California to require any person or company in the United States (and conceivably the world) that operates websites collecting Personally Identifiable Information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals or companies with whom it is being shared.

With CalOPPA, we agree to the following:

  • Visitors can visit our site anonymously.
  • This privacy policy is linked to our homepage, or at minimum, the first significant page after entering our website.
  • Our Privacy Policy link includes the word ‘Privacy’ and can easily be found.

Fair Information Practices

In order to be in line with Fair Information Practices we will take the following responsive action, should a data breach occur, we will notify you via email within 7 business days.

We also agree to the Individual Redress Principle which requires that individuals have the right to legally pursue enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to the law. 

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

With compliance in the GDPR, you have the right to access information we have about you by submitting a message through the contact form. We must be able to verify your identity before providing you with an electronic copy of your information. We will comply with any request to correct, delete, or withdraw consent to our use of your information.

CAN-SPAM Act

The CAN-SPAM Act sets rules for commercial email, establishes requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to unsubscribe from emails, and indicates the penalties for violations.

We collect your email address to:

  • Send information, respond to inquiries, and/or other requests or questions.

With accordance to CAN-SPAM, we agree to the following:

  • Not use false or misleading header information.
  • Not use deceptive subject lines.
  • To identify the message as an ad.
  • To tell recipients where we’re located.

  • Honor opt-out requests promptly.
  • Monitor what third-party companies are doing on our behalf.

Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

We comply with COPPA and do not knowingly market to or allow third-parties to collect Personally Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. We require the consent of a parent or guardian to collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
